In this project, students got the chance to see a process by a famous artist George Rodrigue, famous for his series of paintings "Blue Dog." "Blue Dog" is all about exploring the process of painting and linking color with how one is feeling. Students decided on the color their "Blue Dog" by exploring the particular way they were feeling that day. In this project students explored the style of Navajo rug-weaving keeping in mind the sorts of colors and shapes the Navajo people use in their rugs! They created their own "rug" thinking about balance and symmetry! In this project, students had the season of spring in mind and thought about what the idea of spring means, new birth and life. They used the egg as a symbol for spring and decorated using pattern and color. In this project students learned about the shadow, photography, and about plants and nature. They chose plants that they would want to "take a picture of" and placed them on special painted paper, they then set it under a glass sheet in the sun and allowed the sun to expose their picture, they then developed it. These are called cyanotype prints or "sun prints." In this project students learned about shapes and used them to create animals, they then used oil pastels to give their animals a home! In this project students learned about spring and how spring brings beautiful flowers. They used a coffee filter, water-based markers and salt to create their own petals to crinkle into a flower! In this project students learned about the earth moon and sun and used many different watercolor techniques to create a space-looking background for these pieces of the solar system, they then colored a moon, sun and earth to collage on top of it. In this project students were learning about the solar system and marbled paper that resembled specific planets to collage a solar system! ,In this project students made their own background to look like space using watercolor techniques, they stamped their moon phases to look like the moon, and they collaged their moon phases on to the paper they created for space, it was a long process but well worth it. Process is the essence of art! Int his project students learned about magnetic energy and used small magnets to paint a nonrepresentational abstract piece with acrylic! In this project students were inspired by the work of Vincent van Gogh and created their own "sunflowers." Beautiful. Students learned about the seasons with this project and illustrated them with a tree! Farnsworth Art Exhibit 2017-2018 school year!
