Hello!
My name is Britt Black.
I started teaching art through the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program partnered with Granite district in the 2016-17 school year.
I began my artistic journey when I was the age of your young students. My ability and skill grew with time. I attended art school at the University of Utah. I graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor's degree in Drawing and Painting in Fall of 2012.
After I graduated I decided to go into education and I became a paraeducator at Farnsworth Elementary in the 2015-16 school year. I met some amazing educators in that time and I was able to do a small art-teaching piece in that year. Some of these brillliant teachers went to bat for me and made a push for the BTSALP program to be at our school the following year, they helped me to become that teacher which is what brings me to my current reality.
Teaching art in our elementary schools is an amazing opportunity for me. I get to see my students souls every time they create and make discoveries.
Art is very important for today's children, and the children of tomorrow, to be exposed to art in their education: art boosts children's self esteem, their problem-solving skills and it can be an important outlet where they mightn't have it elsewhere, which is why I became an advocate for the arts in our elementary schools.
If you would like to help support the arts in schools and this program please become a friend of Artworks for Kids.
You can sign up to let the legislature know that you as a parent find this program important and want to keep it in our schools.
